I’m not sure of the percentage, but generally, people buy the cheaper product, regardless of quality & regardless of where it is made. The consumer has massive power! If no one bought products made outside the country, after a while, they would no longer be available. But the fact is, is that people do buy these products. And, generally , they will continue to.
On the other hand, if something, like electronics, TV’s, vcr’s, cell phones, are just not available, “made in the USA”, what is the consumer to do ?
@ Brian: You\’re right there\’s not much consumers can do. I think the author\’s only point is that if all things are equal (price, quality, etc) then choose the most US product. That might mean buying the Apple iPhone rather than a Nokia. They are both manufactured overseas, but at least Apple is a local company.
